If I install yum on a VE, and use yum instead of vzyum, will this cause corruption or problems?

Should not.

vzyum was designed to provide the ability to install a package to the VE with automatic dependencies resolution _without_ the obligation to install local yum in every VE.
Well, yes, time flies and sometimes native yum installed inside a VE works better than vzyum...

In any case using native yum inside a VE should not cause any problems.

If your problem is solved - please, report it!
It's even more important than reporting the problem itself...
