Hi All...

I installed the tools from the debian distro at systs.org and all the tools seem to be there, except for vzpkgls and vzpkgcache.

I read somewhere that these may not be needed for Debian templates as they have no metadata, but woulden't they be there anyhow? We can still run non-Debian templates on a Debian host.

You are confusing virtuozzo tools with openvz. Are you running openvz or virtuozzo? "uname -a"

Hi Rick, thanks for the reply.

I'm running OpenVZ:

2.6.18-openvz-686 #1 SMP Tue Dec 19 21:44:32 CET 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

I took a precompiled kernel from systs.org and installed the tools from that same distro.

I downloaded the OpenVZ docs and was experimenting with the command line tools. On page 44 of the OpenVZ docs, under the heading "Listing Templates" the vzpkgls command is discussed. Then, again, on page 91 it is listed.

Hi Jim,

vzpkgls and vzpkgcache located in tool "vzpkg" (sources and rpm can be downloaded at http://download.openvz.org/template/utils/ )

They are used (Virtuozzo *and* OpenVZ)to build precreate rpm - based OS-Templates (but on Virtuozzo deb-Packages are converted to a rpm-like Virtuozzo structure !) out of some "Metadata" file.

On Debian Sarge (aka. stable) its useless, due some dependencies to yum, rpm and some libs.

See more at http://wiki.openvz.org/Category:Templates, too
