Hi,

Looking at;

https://openvz.org/index.php?title=Quick_installation_of_Vir tuozzo_7&action=history

it seems information on installing Virtuozzo 7 on top of a pre-installed Linux distribution has been removed from the documentation on 7 June 2016‎.

Is there a technical reason for this and or is there no support for this anymore?

Gr, Justin

OpenVZ 7 is a stand-alone distro... and there are a number of reasons for that. First of all, OpenVZ 7 does more than previous versions. It adds KVM virtual machine support as well as libvirt support. Trying to make everything work across a number of distributions with different versions of various underlying components would be a support matrix nightmare.

Now I have seen a recipe for converting an existing EL7 host to OpenVZ 7. Basically what it does it replace original distro provided packages with OpenVZ provided ones. It is definitely a hack but supposedly will work when you are in a situation where you can't do a fresh distro install... say in a limited datacenter. I don't think Virtuozzo wants to support that method so use at your own risk.

So far as using other distros as OpenVZ 7 host nodes, so far as I know, Virtuzzo currently has no plans for adding support for other distros. The OpenVZ community may tackle supporting Debian but I'm not sure who is working on it nor how far they have gotten... and to be honest... I haven't really heard a compelling argument for changing underlying distros.

The forum here, IRC (#openvz on Freenode, requires a registered nic), the OpenVZ mailing list (https://openvz.org/Mailing_lists), etc.
