we are deploying several hundred VE's where VE end users will NOT get the VEs root password.
as an added protection, we thought about setting each VEs root password to a random string.

given the fact that admins can enter VEs by running:
vzctl enter VEID

is there any reason against setting each VEs root password to something random(that even we don't keep record of)?

Well, looks like there is no reason not to do this. In any case at any time you can enter the VE via 'vzctl enter' and reset the root password.
You can also use "--userpasswd user:password" vzctl option for this.

If your problem is solved - please, report it!
It's even more important than reporting the problem itself...
