I have an Ubuntu 8.04 VE template that I created on an Ubuntu 8.04 host. It worked just fine on that host. Now, I have moved it to a RHEL 4 host and when I vzctl start it it claims to start but does not. It seems to fail silently.

$ sudo vzctl --verbose start 106
Starting VE ...
VE is unmounted
VE is mounted
Adding IP address(es): XX.XX.XX.XX
Running VE script: /etc/vz/dists/scripts/debian-add_ip.sh
Setting CPU units: 11430
Configure meminfo: 351282
Set hostname: xxx.xxx.com
Running VE script: /etc/vz/dists/scripts/debian-set_hostname.sh
Running VE script: /etc/vz/dists/scripts/set_dns.sh
File resolv.conf was modified
VE start in progress...

dmesg only shows:
VPS: 106: started
VPS: 106: stopped

I have been looking around for troubleshooting advice but have only come accross suggestions to check dmesg and launch with -v which haven't revealed a whole lot. Other logfiles dont appear to have much related information.

Anyone have a suggestion of what else I can check?
