Dear OpenVZ Community,

I was just introduced to OpenVZ when a friend gave me access to a spare container he wasn't using. "uname -a" reports:

Linux blahblah 2.6.32-6-pve #1 SMP Fri Nov 4 06:54:05 CET 2011 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

It was originally running Ubuntu 12.04, so the first thing I did was update to 14.04, not realizing it could cause problems with this kernel. Is Ubuntu 14.04 in fact compatible with this kernel? Are there any other caveats I should be aware of with this kernel? I intend to use this machine to serve some Redis instances and a Python web application (via uWSGI) that could get a significant volume of traffic.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Your first line of support should really be the guys running your server, as they might have good reasons for sticking to that old kernel and can provide all these answers for you. That being said, they could look into using these repositiories instead, if they haven't already: http://download.openvz.org/debian/

Hi,

I have a similar question. I upgraded a container from ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 with a simple "sudo do-release-upgrade". The container is running on a host with "2.6.32-openvz-042stab081.8-amd64 #1 SMP Wed Oct 23 16:24:07 MSK 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux".

I am new to OpenVZ, so I was wondering if this even was the correct way to upgrade a container? The server I upgraded is a web/mailserver, and as far as I can tell, everything works on 14.04 (webserver, mail, etc), except syslog, which shomehow stopped logging..
