This is a spin-off of following Proxmox thread:

Proxmox uses a somthing modified RHEL6 2.6.32-x kernel. This kernel was introduced with new Proxmox version 1.9.

But with the switch from older 2.6.32-x based Squeeze kernel to the RHEL kernel many user report strange JVM errors inside their OpenVZ container in context with Java web applications (JBoss, Tomcat, etc.)
- JVM crashes after a while
- JVM consumes 100% CPU
- WepApps is alive, but stop handling HTTP request.

Switching back to the older kernel solves these strange errors

Has someone similar problemes with Java (web-based apps) and the original RHEL based kernel?

Hi,
What JDK version and vendor is being used in the environment?

Different Java Vendors:
Sun
OpenJDK (OK - this a derivate of the Sun JDK)
Java Version: 1.6.x

Same behaviour - JVM crash or stop working (web apps).
Not every Java stack has this problem, but Alfresco, Liferay, Zimbra, etc.. make problems.

But we found a solution for this problem - assign at least 2 CPU to VPS, and all will work fine.

This is very strange problem, because it seems to be hardware specific. See follwing post:

I had the same issue:

Debian Squeeze, Sun-java, Crashplan ProE server. after kernel upgrade all services would run but would not listen on any ports.

After adding second CPU and rebooting the container all is working again!!

I wonder if Proxmox will patch the kernel?
