Using a new dell 2850, PERC4 RAID, FC 4, SMP kernel (22stab038.1) and it keeps failing out on mounting the root from grub

I tried the different root=/dev/sda1 but it just wont mount it

after installed the RPM it had root=LABEL=/1 and when the normal kernel is loading it goes fine.

any thoughts?

Thanks!

Todd, please, run `lspci`, `lspci -n` and post it here...

Looking at:
http://www.swsoft.com/en/products/virtuozzo/hsp/hcl/other/

Suggests that the
PowerEdge 4 Expandable RAID Controller 4e/Si/Di
with id 0x1028:0x0013 is supported in Virtuozzo and therefore probably in OpenVZ?

Are /dev/sda and /dev/sda1 reported at boot time?

yeh, /dev/sda and /dev/sda1 come up fine and I can boot into other kernels no problem

I did notice when installing the RPM that it complained about the megaraid not being a module. Researching this seemed to indicate that was just because the support was compiled in the kernel and not a module anymore - i eliminated that as a problem but maybe i should not have?

Is it likely that the OpenVZ would not have it yet though Virtuozzo lists it as supported?

It seems like it is something simple that I am missing - anybody else out there with this hardware?

Thanks!

Can you post your dmesg and copy-paste any error messages that come up during boot? This will give us more insight...

todd,
we will update megaraid driver in OVZ kernel soon and it will support your hardware. Unfortunately it is not supported as is. SWsoft HCL mentioned by Spookyfish is for commercial virtuozzo only...
I suppose it should happen during next week.

You can do it manually yourself easily and recompile the kernel, it should not be that hard. You need to take drivers/scsi/megaraid directory from
latest mainstream kernel, modify drivers/scsi/Makefile to mention it, turn on appropriate config options and recompile.

Hi dev,

ok, no problem, we are actually going to use the commercial product for most of our implementations but I wanted to start getting familiar with the system. Is there a place where I can download a trial of the commercial version for now?

Thanks!
