Installing 2.6.32-feoktistov.1 to debian [message #42203]

Hello,

I need a little help with dpkg. It isn't openvz bug, but maybe someone know how to solve this:

I tried to alien 2.6.32-feoktistov.1.rpm to .deb

used alien --scripts kernel-2.6.32-feoktistov.1.x86_64.rpm
then alien -i --scripts kernel_2.6.32-1_amd64.deb

but something went wrong, and now it gives me that:

dpkg: error processing kernel_2.6.32-1_amd64.deb (--install):
subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
kernel_2.6.32-1_amd64.deb
Unable to install at /usr/share/perl5/Alien/Package/Deb.pm line 92.

Now I can't use apt-get at all, can't install nor remove anything. Trying to do anything with apt-get and it drops me:

apt-get install cacti
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: The package kernel needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.

Hi,

remove deb package "kernel", so cacti can be installed via the apt-get install ... seems the pre-removal and post-installation get some errors ... so the kernel/alien packages cannot be installed.

what Debian version and alien is used ?

Tried to remove it by:

apt-get remove kernel
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: The package kernel needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.

dpkg -r kernel

tried to downgrade to 2.6.27:

dpkg -i --force-all kernel_2.6.27-chistyakov.1_amd64.deb
Selecting previously deselected package kernel.
(Reading database ... 38224 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace kernel 2.6.32-1 (using kernel_2.6.27-chistyakov.1_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: warning - old pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ...
dpkg: error processing kernel_2.6.27-chistyakov.1_amd64.deb (--install):
there is no script in the new version of the package - giving up
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
kernel_2.6.27-chistyakov.1_amd64.deb

Debian is 5.0.3
Alien is 8.72

you can override some action see dpkg --force-help

% dpkg --force-all -P kernel

Solved it:

rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/kernel.prerm
dpkg -r --force-all kernel
