Hi All,
I am new to OpenVZ. I have a question regarding possibility of using OpenVZ for client usage instead of for server hosting. For example, I wonder if it is possible to boot a system, enter a container and let the container runs a full gnome/kde/other desktop. I meant NOT by remote methods mentioned at http://wiki.openvz.org/X_inside_VE.
A couple of things already gave me hints that it may not be possible with OpenVZ. For example, the FAQ that said direct access to hardware is not available. Also, the http://wiki.openvz.org/X_inside_VE page does not mention running GUI apps directly inside the container.
I would appreciate if some one could provide confirmation. Thanks!
Sincerely,
Cheon-Woei Ng

Hi
You can use container just as chroot environment.
You can mount containter (by using 'vzctl mount' command), then You can make chroot inside containter and start any application with host server permissions. In this case You will have direct access to hardware and will be able to start X server and any other desktop environments.
thank You,
