CPUUNITS - DUAL CPU QUAD CORE [message #23930]

Hello all.

If i have 8 CPUs (2Ghz earch). Via vzcpucheck -v i see earch VM have 1000 units.

Current CPU utilization: 24000
Power of the node: 819549

My VMs is using ONLY 24.000 units?

In virtuozzo manual i see earch 50.000 is 1Ghz of CPU. Is correct?

My old server is SINGLE CPU QUAD CORE 1.6Ghz and load is 2 or 3 ; My new hardware is DUAL CPU QUAD CORE 2Ghz and load is 2, i no have performance with new hardware.

What sugestion?

I am brazil and no talk english perfect =)

check in your /etc/vz/$VEID.conf for CPUUNIT

You have the control there. This is the minimum CPU allowed per VE. I think it can use all the CPU it wants if it is not requested by another VE.

BTW, the load isn't only something about CPU, it is also about I/O. You may have the best CPU of the world, but if you're running a very busy database server, you're likely to hit I/O limit than CPU.

BTW, if you don't see a performance gain, it may be for different reason:

1- Your applications don't ask that much.
2- Your are bound somewhere else than CPU.

what is the output of vmstat -n 5 5 ?

Everything seems to be going smoothly. Load average below 2... that means that 6 processors have nothing to do most of the time.

Look, these settings (CPUUNITS) are the guarantied cpu power, provided to the VE. But if there are some free cpuunits (as in your case - you have 819549, while set up guaranties only for 24000), then these free units are distributed between all VEs in proportion of their CPUUNITS settings.
So in any case all node's power will be utilized if needed.
