I'm on a VPS and have noticed for about a week that between the hours of 23:00 - 02:00, my site becomes very slow. I'm very inexperienced with VPS root access and don't know what to do. How can I check to see what's causing the problem?

do you have root on the hardware node? If not, I don't think anyone can give you any specific information, nor could you confirm anything. if you are paying for a vps service, you should be contacting your provider. ie, the company you pay.

Can you elaborate a bit more on slow,

Does the page take long to load?
Have you logged onto the server and run "top" to see what is going on?
Try downloading a big file from the server and see how the transfer rate is...

Yes, the page is very slow to load and sometimes it just times out. Even if site shuts down, I'm always able to use Cpanel. I'm attaching the top results from 2 days ago. Since I'm an amateur, I'm not sure what I'm looking at. It took me some time to learn about the top command -lolindex.php?t=getfile&id=393&private=0

its either a ubc failure or a bottleneck in your application. it doesn't look like it would be a hardware performance problem to me. you didn't mention if that top is on the HN or VE but its basically idle so shouldn't matter. check user_beancounters first.

I wish I understood your post. I'm not familiar with most of the terminology. Can you provide some shell commands that I should run? I can post the results here.
