Does anyone know of any issues with installing a DHCP server on a VPS?

I tried installing dnsmasq (has a DHCP function) onto a Debian Sarge templated VPS. It configures and comes up fine without issue, but fails to respond to DHCP requests. I'm assuming that this is a forwarding issue from host.

Any experts out there?

Thanks in advance.

VPS network device is PPP-like, it acts as a router for IP packets, and doesn't work on ethernet level, nor forwards ARP requests, broadcasts and so on. This is done so for security reasons.

You can install 2nd NIC and give it for exclusive use of VPS via
# vzctl set VPSID --netdev_add ethX

In future we will implement ethernet like network device for VPSs.
