I also encounter the same when testing CT full restore (after full CT ploop snapshot image backup)
[root@localhost private]# prlctl register /vz/private/c8c82b79-d05f-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
Register the virtual environment...
Failed to register the virtual environment: PRL_ERR_VZCTL_OPERATION_FAILED (Details: Warning: Container in old data format, registration skipped.
)
Assume the CT is running with ploop . Comparing other live CT and restored CT , it missed a file.
cd /vz/private/xxxx/
ln -s 5 .ve.layout
(This file probably did not restore, as it pointed to non-existent file/folder)
Then, try again to prlctl register
