Hi,

I am wanting to build a vmhost that will run several guests but to also have a backup server that can be brought up if the primary goes down for any reason.

The idea being to sync via the HOSTS not individual guest systems!

From everything that I have read, I think I will need something like glusterfs between the servers and have vmware mounted on top of this.

So my question is, can this be done? is glusterfs the best way? how do i handle bring up the backup after the primary goes down?

I am also unsure about what should be on the glusterfs file system (/vz/root/ or /vz/private/)

I would need the guests to be in a shutdown state on the backup box and to only have them startup when the primary goes down, I am not to bothered if this has to be a manual startup as I can handle down times of a few mins.

The guests machines would be running email and web sites mainly.

thanks

Marl
