I updated the host OS of my OpenVZ server from Debian Squeeze to Debian Wheezy 7.5 with kernel 2.6.32-openvz-amd64.

Before the update network speeds were around 480mbps also internally from vps to vps and from/to the host system.

Now if I download from my ftp vps speed is around 15MB/s (120mbps) before it was > 40MB's and from my samba vps with veth interface speed dropped from 60MB's to 35MB's.

I tested with a 100mb file with sftp from the host to on of the vps systems only 10MB's internal speed.

Nothing else changed but this OS update.

I have read countless forums posts about possible solutions like ethtool and tc settings i all tested no change sadly.

What could i have overlooked or could be the problem?

From the recent update there is a message about conntrack being disabled on the host node to fix venet performance issues. Maybe this is related.

Hello Devonblzx,

Your probably talking about "Bug 2755 - nf_conntrack required for OpenVZ". I set this on my HN, rebooted and tested. Unfortunately no difference in network speed.

This bug is about Venet performance. Besides venet for most of my containers I use a veth interface in one of my containers and there speed dropped also with 50% after the update of my debian squeeze 32bit to debian wheezy 64bit.

Thank you for your help and tip about this conntrack "bug" I wasn't aware of.

CentOS user and I don't do many transfers between containers on the same host node. Are you sure it stays within the host node the entire time? Tracerouting doesn't leave the node?

If it stays on the node the whole time, you'd probably have better luck using the OpenVZ bugzilla to file a report.
