running openvz inside virtualbox [message #45851]

Hello,

we are using a CentOS 5 installation with openvz to run some virtual machines. At the moment we set up a backup system to store our virtual machines on a storage and if something fails we can transfer the virtual machines back to another host. We will not test the backup and restore procedure on our productive system so the idea was to use virtualbox (on a desktop pc) an install centos inside and then using there openvz.

Windows 7 (64-bit)
-> Virtualbox
-> CentOS
-> openvz
-> our applications

Unfortunately after installing the the openvz kernel I get an kernel panic.

openvz kernel: 2.6.32-042stab049.6

Is it possible to use openvz inside virtualbox?
I also tried some boot parameters but without luck.

Hello,

so the "problem" is solved, it was my error, I used CentOS 5.8 and tried to install an CentOS 6 kernel, this can not work Embarassed

.

I changed the repository to the CentOS5 version and everything works.

Hi Markus,

What's your experience running OpenVZ within VirtualBox? I'm looking at running it or more likely Proxmox in a VirtualBox VM to more efficiently run some Linux servers as containers. Has your CentOS setup being running stable?
