Hello.

OpenVZ 7 by default uses .hds extension for ploop images.
What is the difference between .hdd and .hds formats?
If there is a difference between these formats, how can i convert hdd to hds with maximum speed?

Thank you.

Dear iblinder,
could you please clarify your question?

On my test node root.hdd is directory that contains root.hds ploop image file

# ls /vz/private/101/root.hdd/
DiskDescriptor.xml DiskDescriptor.xml.lck root.hds templates
[root@tom ~]# ls /vz/private/102/root.hdd/

In fact ploop image file have 2 versions, first version had some limitation, and was replaced by 2nd one many years ago,
but IIRC both version of image file had the same name suffix.

Also you can take a look at sources for details
https://src.openvz.org/projects/OVZ/repos/ploop/browse/inclu de/ploop1_image.h

Thank you,

Dear vaverin,

thank you for you reply.

OpenVZ 6 by default creates /vz/private/101/root.hdd/root.hdd file, in OpenVZ 7 is it /vz/private/101/root.hdd/root.hds
Using hds in OpenVZ 7 instead of hdd in OpenVZ 6, is it only renaming file?

Dear iblinder,
According to our developers .hds files was used in all released version of virtuozzo from very beginning.
.hdd file name was used in first commits only,
and obviously this version was forked for legacy OpenVZ and was then was not updated.

Nowadays OpenVz7 uses the same sources as Vz7, so both products now uses .hfs files.
It isn't new format, it just rename.

Thank you,
Vasily Averin

Hi Vasily, if it's just a rename, does this mean the files are interchangeable?

Hi NoelRad,

Yes. These files have same format. There is no difference, just a different filename.
