This works:

On the host:
vzctl set XXX --features "sysfs:on" --save

In the container:
vi /etc/init.d/networking
After the comments at the top, add the line:
mkdir /var/run/networking

On the host:
vzctl restart XXX

This works for me. How can we do this without editing the init script?
