nfs3 inside VE Input/output error problem [message #33980]

I've a VE with several nfs3 mounts (not bind mounts), i recently got a problem accessing just one nfs mount point.

# mount -t nfs | grep /home/studies
netapp3:/vol/vol0/studies on /home/studies type nfs (rw,nosuid,bg,soft,tcp,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,addr=132.72.40.11)
# ls -la /home/studies/
/bin/ls: cannot access /home/studies/: Input/output error
#

There is no problem unmounting /home/studies/, but after i mount it again the problem persists. I've also restarted the VE and the problem still persisted. Then i've migrated the VE to other node in the cluster and the problem was gone, so i've migrated it back to the same node and the problems was still there. So i've checked
other VE on this node which have mounted /home/studies/ and they all have problem accessing only this /home/studies/ share. So this looks like the whole HN node has got into some bad state regarding nfs3.

Is there a way to solve the problem without node reboot?
And do you need more info possibly find what actual problem or bug is it, while I still have not rebooted the node?

I'm using vanilla openvz 2.6.18 028 kernel.

Hello,

please tell us the EXACT version of OpenVZ kernel you're using?
And also show please strace of "ls -la" command, just in case.

It was 2.6.18 028stab053-r14 i've already rebooted the kernel to 2.6.18 028stab056-r1. Is this problem well know and was fixed in more rcent kernels than 2.6.18 028stab053-r14?

ps.There was nothing special in strace of ls -la
so it did not send it in the first place.

Do you have /home on the same netapp server or this is a normal local filesystem? If this share is an NFS sub-mount this is a potential problem...

Could you describe the filesystem layout in this container in more details?

The exported filesystem on netapp is - /vol/vol0/studies.
There is single filesystem under /vol/vol0 while /vol/vol0/studies
has just it's own qtree.

On VE the root filessystem is under /vz/private/VEID as usual
and serveral nfs3 mounts where /home/studies/ is:

# df /home/studies/
Filesystem           1K-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on
netapp3:/vol/vol0/studies
                     671088640 357937592 313151048  54% /home/studies
#

So /home is local VE filesystem.
To remind you - the problem appeared simultaneously on all VEs(on same HN) that mount netapp3:/vol/vol0/studies, and only for this mountpoint. I did not find any clue for problems in HN. After I rebooted the HN the problem dissapeared, but i'm affraid it my aprear again on any of my HN.
