excuse me if this is a really obvious FAQ...

How do I reset the /proc/user_beancounters (noteably the fail counts)?

I've tried stopping and restarting the vz instance but, surprisingly (to 
me) the numbers (specifically the fail counts) stay the same...

It looks like your kernel was compiled with CONFIG_UBC_KEEP_UNUSED=y

If you want to reset beancounters when VE is restarted switch off this option.

Can we pleeease have a possibility to be able to programatically zero
the counters (possibly separately max and failures) without restarting a
VE? It can't be THAT hard :)

The answer is given at http://wiki.openvz.org/UBC_failcnt_reset.

And it can't be that hard to store the current failcnt values and then 
just check the delta.

Actually, I am curious about why resetting the UBCs is "an incorrect 
thing to do" The reason given is that apps may be reading them and may 
not be programmed to handle the number suddenly decreasing.

So... What programs are these that are reading the UBCs? I haven't 
written any. and if I did I think it'd be great if the stats could be 
zeroed. Is the wiki page referring to some actually existing software 
which reads these stats which would be broken by a reset?

I am confused as to why it would be "incorrect" to zero the stats, and 
why such concern is made for programs which don't exist or which we're 
not using.
