Hi all - first post here Smile

Im trying to implement a small HA cluster with 02 Hnodes, but i want use the ha-layer inside VPS's. This is because i want half of services running in one node and another half in other node. If i use ha-layer directly in Hnodes, i cant do this scenario, right?

The question is: ha-layer works inside VPS's?

Could you please explain in more details what do you mean under "HA-layer"?

Btw, our wiki have article about HA/DRBD:
http://wiki.openvz.org/HA_cluster_with_DRBD_and_Heartbeat
Probably it'll help you.

Hi vaverin

The ha-layer i refer is the heartbeat+drbd. I nid run this inside VPS because i dont want the second Hnode stay only waiting for action - i want distribute services running (w/o live migration - more complex i think) in both Hnodes and when one fail, the another assume all services in the VPS's. In this scenario, both Hnodes still running all the VPS's - the control of who provide which service is controlled _INSIDE_ VPS's (via heartbeat+drbd+rsync+portmon).

Maybe this help to understand:

............Hnode1....................Hdode2............
.....vps01(squid-active).......vps01(squid-sleep).......
.....vps02(apache-sleep).......vps02(apache-active).....
.....vps03(wsftp-active).......vps03(wsftp-sleep).......
.....vps04(postfix-sleep)......vps04(postfix-active)....

AFAIR someone reported that it works. But I don't know.
Anyway some ideas:

1. you can have each VPS on a separate partition. In this case your scenario will definetely work with host node configured drbd on these partitions.

2. For your purposes you can try GFS as well. But it's performance can be quite low imho :/
