*CLOSED* "TOP" inside a VPS [message #12462]

When top is run inside a vps the output part of
"Cpu(s): 0.0% us, 0.0% sy, 0.0% ni, 100.0% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si"

Is the CPU "us" % calculated by the maxium amount of CPU set for the VPS i.e if the CPU was 2 GHZ but 1 GHZ was set to maxium that VPS could use. Is the % worked out by the total CPU or the CPU limit for that VPS.

Ok thanks, also is there anyway of finding out a rootpassword for a VPS. As i am making a Control Panel like Virtuozzo and wish for them to be able to login with their root password.

Linux doesn't store the root password, so you can't view it. You can compare the md5 of the users input however.

Thats what i ment.. so how would i get the md5 of their password. What function would i need to run to grab the md5.

"us" is "user time" in % (i.e. what part of time was spent in user space), it has nothing to do with limits set by VE admin.

Ok how would i find out how much of their max allocated CPU they was using. E.g in percent, could i just work it out by the amount of CPU idle?

no. it is impossible to calculate real-cpu% from information available inside VE.

you need to examine /proc/vz/vestat file instead:
