Hello,

I am trying to create a Centos-5-beta os template. I started off with the centos-4 metadata and modified the yum.conf file to use the correct mirrors.
I use the command vzpkgcache centos-5-i386, but I get the following error:

Error: initscripts conflicts with kernel < 2.6.12

I then tried following things, including setting up a local centos-5 yum mirror and recreating the initscripts rpm after having compiled it on my box, but I keep getting the same error.

My kernel is 2.6.18-ovz028stab023.1

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hi,
I also tryed to make centos 5 template by this way, and have same troubles as you. Next step was to try to make template from fedora-core-5 (cp -pr /vz/template/fedora-core/5 /vz/template/centos/5z) then fix gpg-key, mirrors in yum.conf and yum cache dir.
vzpkgcache -f centos-5z-i386-minimal was successful, and creating new VE based on this template (centos-5z-i386-minimal) too. For now VE work without problems but I still expect some ... in any case.
If you wish, try this ... until oficial vztmpl-centos-5 release.

Regards !

Could you possible post a download link to the working template? Will it work with the released Centos 5?

Secondly, does anyone know when an official template for Centos 5 will come to exist?

According to a post on the openvz mailing list a community centos 5 template should be released in a couple weeks.

I'm rather new to openvz, but am good at following tutorials and understand the underlying concepts to a certain degree.

Does the lack of a centos 5 template make it impossible (or impossible for someone "like me") to get openvz up and running on centos 5?

Thanks in advance.

The templates are for the VPS's. So the VPS node may still run on CentOS 5 even though it is a beta still and you probably shouldn't run a production server on a beta OS.

You cannot have a CentOS5 VPS without the templates but you can run CentOS4 VPS's on your CentOS5 OS.

What would I lose if I was to run CentOS 4 templates inside of a CentOS 5 host?

You won't loose anything. CentOS4 VEs are running fine on CentOS5+OVZ RHEL5 kernel.
