Hello.
I am facing the same situation.
Remote server, same message about sata_via. In my case, grepping the kernel shows:

[root@localhost boot]# cat vmlinux-2.6.9-023stab040.1 | strings | grep -i sata_via
sata_via

So i can assume module is compiled in. But as i really want to be sure, please can you confirm me you were able to boot successfully this kernel?
