Hello,
In OpenVZ kernel driver for these devices is compiled as a module.
So, the most probable thing is that you haven't loaded it.

If you have only remote access you can do the following:

1) Reboot into non-OpenVZ kernel, where network works.
2) Login on the node via ssh and edit /etc/modprobe.conf by adding kinda "alias eth0 8139too" or "alias eth0 8139cp" or ...
I don't know exactly your model and number of cards you use. Provide `lscpi -n` and `lspci` output to clarify it.
3) Try to reboot in OpenVZ kernel.

After that module should loads automatically.
