thats what i have been using with the X11 bit ticked. i am leaving the display location blank though? not sure if this is correct. Still when i echo $DISPLAY it is blank.

do i need to set the Display Location as my laptop IP or localhost?

... hmm, ok

1.) run the X-server on your laptop. make shure it acceppts incoming connections from other hosts (xhost +)

2.) make a direct ssh-connection to your VE with (ssh -X user@vehost) or with the putty.exe and X-Forewarding switched on

3.) normaly $DISPLAY on the remoteside (your VE) should contain "localhost:10.0"

4.) try to start some X-application (like xterm)

if you get an error message, post it an write which step went wrong.

greetings,
mario.

p.s. are you using private IPs and NAT for your VEs? is routing between your laptop an the VEs correctly configured?
