It's difficult to say with certainty, but it does appear that way.

Virtuozzo devs have continued with Virtuozzo 9 and 10 development. They also have a Virtuozzo 9 product that's been released for over a year now: https://www.virtuozzo.com/hybrid-server-docs/9.0/release-not es-9.0/

About 3 months ago we were told the following from a Virtuozzo rep. Parts in parentheses are my assumptions/extrapolations.

- Virtuozzo had a complete corporate management shake-up at the start of the year
- All development resources have been working on ensuring stability of vz9 and vz10 for corporate interests only with VMs. (Their focus appears to have been on converting all containers to VMs and doing without containers - which we saw in the form of an automated conversion utility sometime last year)
- There was debate about whether to continue OpenVZ internally. (Probably since most OpenVZ users use it for containers. If users wanted VMs they'd just use KVM direct rather than OpenVZ)
- They ultimately decided to re-add containers back into vz9 so as to eventually release it as OpenVZ 9. (The fidelity and progress of that decision is not known)

So either it's dead or they're still working on merging containerization code from vz7 into vz9.

Based on vzctl project commits at the following URL, it does *appear* to match with the above timeline and the idea that they're now working on reviving OpenVZ. Commits stopped Sept 2024 while they refocused on VMs (that don't use vzctl) and then resume again about 3 weeks ago.
