It's possible and AFAIK, openvz devels are recommending the usage of RHEL 6 kernel on RHEL 5 systems (same goes for all RHEL 5 clones, CentOS, Scientific Linux, etc.).

Here is a wiki article about the switch:
https://openvz.org/028_to_042_kernel_upgrade

Lack of forum threads about this can mean either (or both):
1) it's completely straightforward
2) not many forum users are doing it.

Some additional info can be found on WHT:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1344652

This WHT thread gives reasonable advice, although I find it a bit cautious. Well, depends on your sysadmin experience...

What I would recommend is to at least set up a simple test case and give it a quick try. A KVM / virtualbox / vmware VM will do, if you don't have free hardware.

If you can, please post back with any questions or advice you might have as you go along, so others can find it here.

Good luck!
