I would try a kernel that is officially supported by openvz, and as http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/kernel says

> If you are not sure which kernel to download, use RHEL6 (on any distro).

this would be the RHEL6 kernel.

Runs on Debian: http://wiki.openvz.org/Install_kernel_from_RPM_on_Debian_6.0
