In Debian 6, I just perform the following commands:

Case for 32-bits system

apt-get update
apt-get install linux-image-openvz-686
ln -s /var/lib/vz/ /vz
reboot

Case for 64-bits system

apt-get update
apt-get install linux-image-openvz-amd64
ln -s /var/lib/vz/ /vz
reboot
