This might be a particular HN's problem or the problem might occur somewhere between the external node that sends ping requests and the Hardware Node.

So, I would suggest you when the problem occurs another time run tcpdump utility both on the external node and the Hardware node.
This utility allows you to track the timestamp when the packet is going out the external node and when the packet reaches your Hardware node. If that timestamps differ a lot there are two possible reasons: there is something wrong between the nodes and ISP support must be checked or there is something wrong with your network card. So, it might be possible to check another card.
