I have been facing some what similar issue but its intermittent in our case http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=msg&th=8445&star t=0&SQ=8cf899b9f819e765c6831fbb246c9d31&

What is the output for below commands :

arp -n

and

route -n

Also what are the details of the hardware you are using ?
