after my first experiances with XEN, I would like to move over a backup server from OpenVZ to XEN. There are three instances (mx-backup, proxy-server, http-backup) running, so I could make the move by hand. I would like to share my opinions, if anyone have suggestions with this kind of migration. If anyone could see possible problems in my approach, please let me know. Hints and tips are welcome.

- stoppen der OpenVZ-Instanzen
- stop the OpenVZ Instance
- kopieren der Inhalte in jeweils eine Container-Datei (Image, loop-gemounted)
- copy the content in a separate container file (image, loop mounted)
- kopieren der Xen-DomU-Kernelmodule (/lib/modules...) in den Container
- copy the XEN-DomU kernelmodule into the container
- ggfs. Anlegen eines Swap-Containers und ggfs. weiterer Container
- maybe creating a swap container and maybe additional containers
- anpassen der (ContainerRoot)/etc/fstab
- modify (root container) fstab
- unmounten des Root-Containers
- unmounting the root container
- abschalten der OpenVZ-Startroutinen
- disable OpenVZ init start/stop script
- Erstellung der xen-Konfigurationen, Netzwerk, hostname,...
- creating the xen configuration, network, hostname,...
- Reboot des Servers, nicht mehr in den OpenVZ-Kernel, sondern in den Xen-Kernel (Dom0)
- reboot of the server without OpenVZ but with Xen-Kernel (Dom0)
- Start der DomU-Instanzen
- starting DomU instances
Kann das so laufen, oder habe ich etwas Wesentliches übersehen?

EDIT: Gerade noch überlegt, wie sieht das mit den gettys aus? IMHO waren die auf meinen OPENVZ-Instanzen nicht aktiv. In Xen bräuchte ich die aber... Grübel...
EDIT: Oh I mentioned something - what about gettys? They were not active in the OpenVZ containers, but I will need them in Xen ... thinking .....
