Not quite sure if RHEL5 kernel (I saw here is based on 2.6.18) has ext4, I doubt that ext4 is backported to 2.6.18 though, will search around to find out before trying.

This seems totally unrelated to openvz patch and even the kernel. It is because some initialisation in fedora 11 in initrd got hang and never return when trying to mount the root ext4 filesystem. If pass rootfstype=ext4 it works.
