It's good question and I don't know answer. But in fact 4.x version of monit requires device path for monitoring disk space.

In monit 5.x was added new feature 'check filesystem path /mount_point'. But ubuntu has only 4.x at this moment and it's enouh for my setup. So I decided to ask this question before monit upgrade.
