If we won't think about VirtualBox and just want to run OpenVZ Containers, the Hardware Node (host box) has to run a kernel with OpenVZ code, you are right. But i just said that you don't have to _recompile_ it, you can use already prebuilt kernel from download section. Sorry for that, i didn't want to confuse...
