get yourself a box and install centos 5 and jump in

there are two schools, the command line gurus and the gui cheats

use the gnome gui to control your box until you learn the command line

if you need to control a remote server then use nx for a remote desktop until your command line skills are proficient

linux command language is like old dos but much richer, it is lovely. google bash commands for a clue

just jump in, you will love it and never use a windows server again
