I am using a new motherboard that I never used before and because it's new I had to compile the 2.6.26 git kernel - that might be a factor. I had forgot about that. Although this machine is running entirely off of a USB flash drive so I might be able to use the standard kernel. This motherboard won't read SATA drives with the 2.6.24 kernel.
