Before I did the kernel upgrade mentioned elsewhere, I reconfigured my RAM.

I removed a pair of 512s to insert a pair of 1 gig sticks.

It wouldn't complete booting with any kernel I chose. The machine will work with a single gig stick. This RAM works fine in another machine with the same motherboard, but is running Windows.

/var/log/messages doesn't have anything from the failed boots. The failed boots stop some time after the message:

memory for crash kernel (0x0 to 0x0) not within permissible range

I initially thought that was the error, but on the successful boot, I saw that message as well.

Is this another place where the remote console stuff would help?
