In the VE, cp fails with the same error message whenever I try to overwrite any file. Same thing with mv.

But in the host, cp works normally. At first we suspected a bug in the coreutils package provided by Ubuntu, but I tested a different version of cp and the problem persists.

Perhaps we could try a Debian kernel with openvz.
