See, the kernel explicitly tells you that you need PAE kernel if you want to see more than 4GB of RAM.

In addition to that, kernel download page (http://openvz.org/download/kernel/rhel5/) tells you:

* If your x86 machine has more than 4 GB of RAM, choose PAE kernel.
* Otherwise, use the plain kernel RPM (ovzkernel).


Also, quick installation guide ( http://wiki.openvz.org/Quick_installation#Kernel_installatio n) tells:

First, you need to choose what “flavor” of the kernel you want to install. Please refer to Kernel flavors for more information.



Finally, there is a dedicated wiki page (http://wiki.openvz.org/Kernel_flavors) which tells you ... all the same.
