taking a look at pmap: AFAICS it scans /proc/<pid>/maps file, which is not enough in reallity to tell how much RAM is used.

Look, read-only mappings are consuming memory as well.
glibc, executable etc. all these goes to UBC::oomguarpages and in pmap::Mapped. So taking into account only "Writeable/Private" is wrong.
