Hello guys,

I've tested both XEN and VmWare Infraestructure because I need run guest OS with 64 bits.

Again, in both, I discovered that my processor and my BIOS need to have support for VT and EM64T.

Maybe the OpenVZ work with guest OS without VT/EM64T? Confused

Thanks!

You don't need VT but you will need to be running a 64-bit Host OS. If you aren't, you can't run a 64-bit guest.

I don't know about Infrastructure, but I do know VMWare Server (and Workstation) don't require VT to run 64-bit guests. You just need a 64-bit host OS. VMWare will make use of VT if you have it though...

OpenVZ doesn't need VT and AFAIK doesn't make use of it even if you have it. It's virtualizationg strategy is much different then VMWare and Xen...

You don't need VT to run system virtualization (VT form Intel are additional registers that add hardware support for virtualization)

You will need a EM64T (Intel some Pentium's 4 and Celeron's D, Pentium D, Core and above) or AMD64 (AMD Athlon64, Sempron64 and above) processor if you want to run 64-bit os.

You can install and work with 64-bit os on VMware even when the host os is 32-bit (works on VMware workstation 5.5 and VMware server),
example 32-bit windows/linux host os, 64-bit windows/linux guest os). You still need 64-bit CPU.
