accessing USB devices from a VE [message #7830]

hello,

i am trying to install an application in a VE (i.e. did a vzctl enter) that requires the presence of a hardware dongle. this is a USB device that the installer looks for before continuing. it also must be there each time the app starts up. i can find the device in /proc/bus/usb/devices from the host.

How do I grant access to a USB device?

if it helps, i have found that my VPS's do not have /proc/bus

where as, VE0 does have /proc/bus ...of course.

Hello,

The question is how application you're installing find out the precense of dongle device...
I suppose it should look not in /sys/*, but rather in /dev/*. If it is so, then just export device in question to VE using:
--devnodes parameter of vzctl (look in vzctl man page for further information).
