*SOLVED* Help with ethernet adaptor [message #6296]

When I install the OpenVZ kernel, and reboot, my ethernet adaptor won't work.

It's a Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+.

Is this supported?

Versions tried: latest test AND latest stable.

I have previously installed OpenVZ without problem.

what errormessages do you get?

have you tried "dmesg" and search for some output about eth0?

what distribution do you use? suse, fedora, gentoo ...

if we get more information about your problem, then we are able to help.

I can only access the system remotely (I rent a server), so I can't do a dmesg and things like that.

I use Debian 3.1 on x86.

Hello,
In OpenVZ kernel driver for these devices is compiled as a module.
So, the most probable thing is that you haven't loaded it.

If you have only remote access you can do the following:

1) Reboot into non-OpenVZ kernel, where network works.
2) Login on the node via ssh and edit /etc/modprobe.conf by adding kinda "alias eth0 8139too" or "alias eth0 8139cp" or ...
I don't know exactly your model and number of cards you use. Provide `lscpi -n` and `lspci` output to clarify it.
3) Try to reboot in OpenVZ kernel.

After that module should loads automatically.

Thanks for the help, but a friend of mine solved it (don't know how, I literally asked for help in an IRC channel, went to bed and came back the next day to my suprise [the guy knew my root password because we're working in a partnership]).
