Thank you for your participating in Virtuozzo 7 Beta Program!

We invite you to try a new version of our leading virtualization platform for hosting providers and participate in Virtuozzo 7 Beta Program. Virtuozzo 7 combines the best-in-class open source technologies with the power of our enterprise features that allow you to reduce infrastructure costs and introduce new services for your customers.

Some years ago in Parallels Cloud Server we introduced our own hypervisor technology in addition to our well known containers. It allowed us to add more flexibility to Virtuozzo because in some cases traditional hypervisor suites customers requirements better than containers. We created our own fast and reliable hypervisor and added a lot of enterprise features to it to address service provider's specific needs.

Nowadays KVM is fast and reliable enough to suite our customer's needs. Thus we do not need to develop and support our proprietary hypervisor anymore. But KVM still lack a lot of required features and we are going to implement these features in our new solution - Virtuozzo 7 with KVM-based virtualization.

This February we released Virtuozzo 7 Beta that includes some very interesting things:

  • Unified management of containers and KVM virtual machines with prlctl and SDK. One universal toolset for CT/VM management!
  • Advanced Memory Management for containers and VMs with our foremost auto-ballooning algorithm and KSM. It allow to overcommit memory resources the smartest way possible with insignificant impact on customer's workloads.
  • Online Memory Management for containers and VMs allows you to change CT/VM memory online without reboot. Your customer can scale his workload without any downtime. You can also propose something like PAYG model - allow customer to change VM resources depending on workload and potentially pay less. Or more - up to you;)
  • Memory guarantee for containers and VMs. Now we also have memory guarantee for containers, not only VMs.
  • Ability to manage containers and VMs with libvirt and Virt Manager. If you used to manage VMs with libvirt you can do it in Virtuozzo absolutely the same way.
  • Guest tools for Windows and Linux VMs.

The main goal of Virtuozzo 7 Beta is to assure our customers that we completely kept CLI and SDK compatibility between Virtuozzo 6 and Virtuozzo 7 allowing you to manage containers and new KVM-based virtual machines.
