Is there

(a) a reference for the values of /proc/user_beancounters, i.e. what units these values are in;

and

(b) some documentation on how to give, say two VEs, exactly half each of all available resources?

Now it is possible that answers to these questions exist somewhere on this web or in the forum; I have done some searching and have not found them, so please don't tell me to search for the answer. If you are offended by my ignorance simply ignore my query.

Thanks,

Wolf Paul

a) those entries which name has word 'page' in name are measured in pages (4kb on x86 and x86-64)

entries with names 'num*' are measured in items. i.e. numproc - number of processes.

other entries are measured in bytes like kmemsize or tcprcvbuf.

you can use:
# vzctl set --kmemsize 8m
to specifiy amount in megabytes.

b) use vzsplit tool to 'split' your node into VEs.
however, please, note that with containers approach it is not possible to give VE exactly one half of the original machine. It is approximate. And overcommitement is frequently used.

You are welcome!

I added FAQ entry for this:
http://wiki.openvz.org/UBC_parameter_units
would be happy if you could review it.
