rpm -q kernel [message #51373]

I am trying the methods mentioned here: http: //www.linfo.org/find_kernel_version.html.

Im wondering what the OpenVZ CentOS equivalent to "kernel" here would be:

[ahmed@amayem ~]$ rpm -q kernel
package kernel is not installed

Or is it because if I could query the kernel using rpm then I could also potentially change the kernel using rpm, which is not allowed for a container?

It's not clear from your posts if you're working from inside a container (CT) or from a hardware node (HN)? Do you have access to HN?

In any case, there is no kernel package installed within the CT as it doesn't need one. Even if you do install it, it won't have any effect on the working kernel.

To find out your current kernel version, execute 'uname -a'. This works under both HN and CT.

Yes I'm working from inside a container and don't have access to the hardware node.
