I'm setting up a test system on a server at my house. I've got a dedicated server and was looking at setting OpenVZ up on there. However, I don't have physical access to the server. What is the recommended method to get OpenVZ going on there?

You can use a standard SSH terminal and wget or a FTP client to install OVZ. You should read the users guide to get an idea of what you have to do. It is spelled out very clearly on how to install OVZ.

I'm more worried about the part where I choose which kernel to load in grub, before I have verified that the VPS kernel is setup properly.

Assuming you already have some Linux distro installed, just log in as root via ssh and follow our quick installation instructions.

PLUS, make sure that (1) ssh server will start after a reboot and (2) firewall (iptables) is disabled.

In a nutshell, the first listed kernel is 0 (Zero) and the next listed is 1 (One) and the next listed is 2 (Two) and so on. If your DC is not manned 24x7 just wait to do it until there is someone present.

PS Don't delete the old kernel's or install with -U that way there will be a backup kernel present if needed.
